An Analysis of Grade IX Students’ Learning Motivation Through the ARCS Model Supported by PhET Simulations

This study aims to analyze the level of learning motivation of grade IX students at SMP Negeri 13 Surabaya using the ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) model assisted by PhET simulation media. This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach with an instrument in the form of a learning motivation questionnaire consisting of 20 statements, each representing four aspects in the ARCS model. The data obtained was analyzed using the percentage value formula (NP = R/SM × 100%) to determine the category of student learning motivation. The results showed that the four aspects of ARCS were in the high to very high category, with the Satisfaction aspect obtaining the highest score of 87.75%. These findings indicate that the use of PhET simulations in the learning process plays a positive role in increasing students' learning motivation. The implications of this study show that the integration of interactive learning media such as PhET can be an effective strategy in increasing student engagement and learning satisfaction. This study recommends that teachers develop technology-based learning methods that can support the achievement of overall learning motivation.
