Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze Sayyid Qutb's understanding in Fi Zilal al-Qur'an regarding Quranic verses that discuss science and technology, as well as their implications for science education based on Islamic values. The research is motivated by the need to explore the Islamic perspective on science and technology in the context of education, especially in facing modern technological advancements that often separate the moral aspects from the development of knowledge.

Design/methods/approach –This research employs a qualitative method with a literature study approach. Data were collected by reviewing verses related to natural phenomena, creation, and the ethical principles in science.

Findings –The findings show that Qutb views Quranic verses about natural phenomena as signs directing humans to think critically and deepen scientific knowledge, which should be integrated with spiritual awareness. Qutb emphasizes that science and religion are not in conflict, but rather complement each other in drawing humans closer to Allah. Furthermore, Qutb highlights the importance of the responsible application of technology, where science and technology education must be balanced with ethical principles so that technological advancements remain beneficial to humanity.

Research implications/limitations –The implications of this research indicate the importance of developing an educational curriculum that integrates scientific knowledge and spirituality from an Islamic perspective.

Originality/value –The originality of this research lies in the integrative approach offered by Qutb in understanding science and technology from the Quranic perspective, which can serve as a framework for science education based on Islamic values.
