Purpose – Learning through natural observation from the Qur'anic perspective holds significant potential for developing a holistic educational approach that encompasses cognitive, spiritual, and moral dimensions. This study aims to explore the concept of learning through natural observation as reflected in Surah Al-Ghashiyah, verses 17-20, particularly in relation to fostering students’ scientific understanding and character development.
Design/methods/approach –This research employs a library research method, analyzing key exegeses such as Fi Zilal al-Qur'an by Sayyid Qutb and the perspectives of other Islamic education scholars. These analyses are further integrated with modern educational theories.
Findings–The findings reveal that the Qur'an encourages natural observation as a learning method that not only enhances knowledge but also strengthens spiritual awareness and environmental ethics. Moreover, this approach aligns strongly with experiential learning theories and holistic education models, offering unique spiritual values that differentiate it from secular learning methods.
Research implications/limitations – This study lays the groundwork for curriculum development that integrates religious and scientific education into a unified approach. Limitations: This research is limited to analyzing Qur'anic verses through exegesis and educational theories, necessitating further studies to test its implementation in real-world learning environments.
Originality/value– This study introduces a novel value in nature-based education by emphasizing its spiritual dimension, a significant contribution to experiential learning theory.
