Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of utilizing digital media as an alternative support for independent learning of Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA). The method used is a literature study with a focus on research results on the use of digital platforms such as Duolingo, YouTube, Instagram, and other artificial intelligence-based media. The results of the study indicate that digital media can increase the flexibility, interactivity, and authenticity of the independent learning process. This media allows learners to access materials flexibly, expand vocabulary and grammar mastery, and develop listening and speaking skills. In addition, digital media also supports personalized learning and provides adaptive feedback. However, several challenges remain, such as limited internet and device access, low digital literacy, lack of pedagogical support, digital distractions, and weak internal motivation. Therefore, a holistic digital media utilization strategy is needed, considering interactive and contextual aspects, and adequate pedagogical support so that independent BIPA learning can take place optimally.
