The Role of Digital Media in Arabic Language Learning A Literature Review on the Use of Technology
Keywords:
Digital Media, Arabic Language Learning, Educational Technology, Blended Learning, Digital Competence.Abstract
Purpose –The advancement of digital technology has brought significant changes to the field of education, including Arabic language learning. Digital media is now widely used to enhance the effectiveness of learning processes, particularly in terms of accessibility, engagement, and student motivation. However, the implementation of technology in Arabic language education still faces various challenges, such as infrastructure limitations, lack of digital competence among educators and learners, and disparities in the effectiveness of language skills acquisition. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of digital media in Arabic language learning by reviewing previous studies on the use of technology in this context.
Design/methods/approach–This research employs a library research method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected from various academic sources.
Findings – The findings indicate that digital media, such as interactive learning applications, educational videos, podcasts, and online platforms, significantly enhance the effectiveness of Arabic language learning, particularly in reading and listening skills. However, major challenges include the lack of pedagogical skills in adapting technology, digital infrastructure limitations, and the potential distractions for learners. To address these issues, recommended optimization strategies include developing technology-based curricula, providing digital competency training for educators, and implementing blended learning models that combine online and offline methods.
Research implications/limitations–This study provides insights for academics and education practitioners regarding the importance of digital media in Arabic language learning.
Originality/value –This research contributes to the academic discussion on the integration of technology in Arabic language education by offering a systematic perspective based on existing literature. The findings emphasize that the successful implementation of digital media depends not only on the technology itself but also on pedagogical design and educators' readiness to effectively adapt to technological advancements.
