Purpose – The transformation of Islamic education in the digital era presents both opportunities and challenges in leveraging technology to instill Islamic values. The background of this study lies in the need for a relevant approach to Islamic education that not only reaches a wider audience but also deepens the understanding and practice of Islamic values through technology. This study aims to explore how digital technology can be effectively utilized in Islamic education while identifying its positive impacts and challenges in instilling Islamic values.
Design/methods/approach–This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, reviewing primary and secondary literature on the transformation of Islamic education, the role of technology in education, and theories from prominent Islamic education scholars.
Findings–The findings reveal that digital technology expands accessibility and enhances interactivity in Islamic education, enabling students to access Islamic learning more easily and flexibly. However, the study also highlights that over-reliance on technology without proper guidance may diminish the practice of memorization and reduce social interaction, which are essential elements of Islamic character education.
Research implications/limitations–The implications of this study underline the critical role of teachers in supervising the use of technology and the need for educational policies that ensure technology strengthens Islamic values rather than replacing them.
Originality/value–This study contributes to the literature by offering an integrative perspective that combines technological utilization and traditional principles in Islamic education. It also provides solutions to maximize the positive impacts and minimize the risks of using technology in education.
