Abstrak

Purpose–The Alfiyah Ibnu Malik is a monumental work in the field of Arabic grammar (Nahwu) that has served as a primary reference in Islamic education traditions for centuries. This study aims to analyze the content structure of Alfiyah, identify its strengths and challenges in teaching, and compare it with other Nahwu texts. Design/methods/approach–The research employs a library research methodology, conducting an in-depth examination of the Alfiyah text, supported by analyses of its commentaries (syarah) and related literature. Findings –The findings reveal that Alfiyah possesses a systematic structure and covers all major aspects of Arabic grammar, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced learners. However, its poetic (nazham) form often requires supplementary explanation for beginners. Compared to other texts such as the simpler Ajurumiyah or the more philosophical Kafiyah, Alfiyah excels in flexibility and comprehensiveness. The study also highlights that integrating technology in teaching can help address the challenges posed by the text's linguistic complexity. Research implications/limitations –This study is limited to a library-based analysis without empirical classroom implementation data. Nonetheless, it provides significant insights into developing teaching methods for classical texts within modern education contexts. Originality/value–The originality of this research lies in its comprehensive approach to Alfiyah as a classical text that remains relevant for teaching Nahwu in the modern era.
